How SpaceX shares actually change hands
The company periodically runs tender offers, letting employees and existing investors sell some holdings at a set price. Those are internal arrangements — you can't join in from the outside.
New investment rounds go to institutions and selected private investors, not to retail buyers.
The Starlink question
Speculation about Starlink floating separately has circulated for years. Nothing has been confirmed, and comments about "eventually" are not a plan you can invest around.
⚠️ Be careful — this attracts scams
Because demand is high and access is impossible, SpaceX is a favourite of investment fraudsters. Treat as a red flag anything offering:
- "Pre-IPO SpaceX shares" to ordinary investors
- Funds or platforms promising exposure with guaranteed returns
- Unsolicited approaches by social media, email or messaging apps
Check any firm on the FCA register before parting with money, and be sceptical of anything urgent or exclusive. If SpaceX ever does list, it will be extremely public — you won't need to hear it from a stranger.

How to check whether any company is listed
The same three checks work for any name you're curious about:
- Search the company plus "investor relations". Listed companies always have an investor relations page; private ones don't.
- Look for a ticker and an exchange — something like LSE, NYSE, NASDAQ or TYO followed by a short code. No ticker, no shares to buy.
- Check who the parent is. Plenty of famous brands are subsidiaries. You often can't buy the brand, but the parent may well be listed.
If a company is private, the only routes in are usually employee schemes, or a stake being sold to institutions — neither of which is open to ordinary investors.

General information only, not investment advice, and not a recommendation to buy any share. Ownership and listings change — check a company's own investor relations pages for the current position. Investments can fall as well as rise and you may get back less than you put in.
