What Is SkyBet on My Bank Statement? SB Games & Sky Betting Charges

A charge showing SKYBET, SB GAMES, SBGAMES or SKY BETTING AND GAMING comes from the Sky Betting & Gaming group, and the naming is the confusing part: Sky Bet, Sky Vegas, Sky Casino and Sky Bingo all bill under shared descriptors. A "SB Games" entry does not tell you which of the four products the money went to, only that it went to the group.

Despite the name, none of this is your Sky TV or broadband bill: Sky Betting & Gaming has been a separate company (owned by Flutter, which also owns Paddy Power and Betfair) since 2018. A statement entry from SKY DIGITAL is television; SKYBET or SB GAMES is gambling.

Matching the charge

Log into whichever Sky Betting product you use and open the transaction or deposit history: deposits are listed with amounts and dates. Two quirks worth knowing when things do not line up:

  • Deposits settle under one descriptor, but the date can lag. A Saturday afternoon deposit before the football often appears on Monday or Tuesday's statement.
  • Multiple small deposits appear separately. Re-depositing during an evening produces a string of entries rather than one, which reads alarmingly on a statement even when every deposit was yours.

If you have no account with any Sky Betting product, someone else has used your card details to fund one. Freeze the card in your banking app and dispute the charges with your bank as unauthorised: gambling operators also verify identity, so reporting the account to Sky Betting & Gaming's support tends to shut it quickly.

Withdrawals and refunds

Winnings withdrawn to your card arrive under a similar descriptor, typically within one to three working days depending on your bank. A deposit that was declined but shows as pending is an authorisation that will drop off by itself within a few days: the money never left.

Blocking gambling charges entirely

If these charges are ones you would rather not see again, two blocks work together and both are free:

  • Your bank's gambling block. Most UK banking apps (Monzo, Starling, NatWest, Lloyds, Barclays and others) can block gambling transactions on the card, usually with a cooling-off period before it can be switched back off.
  • GamStop (gamstop.co.uk) blocks the accounts themselves across every UK-licensed operator, including all Sky Betting products, for six months to five years.

Frequently asked questions

Is SB Games the same as SkyBet?

Same company. SB Games is the descriptor Sky Betting & Gaming commonly uses for its gaming products (Sky Vegas, Sky Casino, Sky Bingo), while sportsbook deposits more often show SKYBET. Both are the same group and the same account wallet.

Is a SkyBet charge part of my Sky TV bill?

No. Sky Betting & Gaming is a separate company from Sky the broadcaster, and has been since 2018. Television bills appear as SKY DIGITAL or similar; SKYBET and SB GAMES are gambling deposits.

Someone used my card on SkyBet. Will I get the money back?

Freeze the card, dispute the deposits with your bank as unauthorised transactions, and report the account to Sky Betting & Gaming. Unauthorised card use is refundable under the Payment Services Regulations; the operator closing the fraudulent account helps the bank's investigation along.
