What Is Just Eat on My Bank Statement? JUSTEAT.CO.UK Explained

A statement entry reading JUST EAT, JUSTEAT.CO.UK or JUST-EAT.CO.UK LONDON is the takeaway ordering app. The company processes card payments centrally, so the charge names Just Eat rather than the kebab shop: which cuts both ways, because it also means some takeaway orders you place through Just Eat never say Just Eat at all.

That is the single most confusing thing about it: when you pay a restaurant that runs its own card terminal for Just Eat orders, or you paid cash-free at the door, the descriptor can carry the restaurant's own name. So an unrecognised charge from a random food name may be a Just Eat order, and an unrecognised Just Eat charge may be someone else's kebab.

Matching the charge to an order

Open the Just Eat app or site, then Orders: every order lists its charged total. Match on the amount, not the date, since weekend orders commonly settle on Monday or Tuesday with the later date printed. Delivery fees, service fees and driver tips are all bundled into the single charge, so the total can sit a few pounds above the food prices you remember agreeing to.

A Friday or Saturday night order forgotten by the following Wednesday is, honestly, the most common explanation there is.

When it is not your order

  • Someone in the household with your card saved in their own Just Eat account. Ask before disputing: a chargeback against a teenager's chicken wings creates paperwork nobody enjoys.
  • An account takeover. If your Just Eat account shows orders delivered to an address you do not know, change the password, remove the saved card, and report it through Just Eat's help pages.
  • Card fraud with no Just Eat account involved. Freeze the card in your banking app and raise the dispute with your bank rather than Just Eat: the chargeback process is theirs. Our guides to unfamiliar statement charges and what someone can do with your card details cover what happens next.

Refunds look different too

A Just Eat refund returns under a similar descriptor but can take three to five working days, and for a cancelled order the original charge sometimes disappears entirely rather than being refunded: the pending authorisation simply drops off. If you are watching for a refund that "has not arrived", check whether the original charge is still there at all.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Just Eat charge say London when I ordered in Manchester?

The descriptor carries Just Eat's company location, not the restaurant's. Every JUSTEAT.CO.UK charge says London regardless of where the food came from.

Why did the takeaway charge under the restaurant's name and not Just Eat?

Some restaurants on Just Eat process card payments through their own terminal, especially for collection orders, so the charge shows their name. Your order history in the app confirms which orders were charged by whom.

Can I get my money back for a Just Eat order I didn't place?

If nobody in your household placed it, freeze the card and dispute the charge with your bank as unauthorised. Also check your Just Eat account for an unknown delivery address, which indicates the account itself was compromised.
